Outline

SweepUp finds duplicate or similar files across folders or volumes (disks), then shows them for user.
User can select unnecessary files automatically, manually or both, and trash them if desired.

People often make backup files for "safe" or "insurance", duplicating original file.
Also people often duplicate files when new similar project begins.
As a result, there are so many duplicate or similar files here and there.
It is possible to start work with "unintended" files on later day.
With increasing capacity and decreasing price of hard disk, such trouble seems to be more prone to happen in these days.
SweepUp is useful application program and will help you to prevent such troubles.

Designated Folders
Drop folders, in which you want to check duplicates, onto SweepUp icon or "Designated Folders" section at upper-right portion of a window.
"Designated Folders" lists such explicitly specified folders.
Contained folders are shown with indent.
Any number of folders can be added.
(Files cannot be specified)
Checking "Trash" at left of each designated folder, files contained in the folder (and contained sub folders) can be selected for trashing.
(in other words, files in the folders not checked here are never trashed)
To cancel designation, select designated folders, then select "Delete" in the "Edit" menu.

Specifies Matching Conditions at upper-left portion of a window, then press the [ Find Match ] button.
SweepUp will show you result.

Status Indicator
At upper-middle portion of a window, SweepUp shows status: Matching File List
Matched files are grouped and indicated by separating with horizontal line.
Clicking a row of file shows a pop-up menu, which will be applied on a file or a group.

Show File
Brings a folder, in which the file is contained, as a window and makes the file selected.
  • Mac OSX
    Finder is used.
  • Windows
    Explorer is used.
(NOTE: Depending on running Windows version, the file may not be selected)

  • Open by Application
Tries to open the file with an application which created it, or associated with the file type.

    Uncheck All
Uncheck "Trash" of all files in the group.

    Check Older
Check "Trash" of older files (modified earlier) in the group.
    (only the newest file remains)

    Check Deeper
Check "Trash" of files which reside in deeper folder in the group.
(only the file which is contained in shallowest folder remains)

    Check Smaller
Check "Trash" of smaller files in the group.
    (only the largest file remains)

If a group contains files which cannot be trashed, other files are marked unconditionally.
("files which cannot be trashed" means files contained in a folder (or sub folder of it) which is not marked as "Trash" in "Designated Folders")

If there is no distinction to check, SweepUp selects a file in following order:
    • an older file
    • a file which resides in deeper folder
    • a smaller file
    • a file added later

User can also mark "Trash" manually one by one.
From File menu, user can check and apply "Trash" for all groups as well.
To actually trash files which is marked as "Trash", select "Trash Checked Files..." in the "File" menu.

These files are excluded from match.

  • Hidden (invisible) files.
  • Files in startup system folder.
