To create a new setting with SynVisum, a new SynVisum Setting File (what is called document file) is must be created and saved first to define its location.
The saved location (folder) is meaningful for following operation.

SynVisum's document file records locations of material files, such as still image files and Quartz Composition files.
Note that only locations of those files are recorded, contents are not.
Once a file's location is set, it cannot be changed.
(it is possible to set again as another file)
How to record a file's location differs depending on the location.
There are 4 cases listed below:
  1. In the folder that contains SynVisum setting file, or its sub folders:
Records relative path from the folder that contains SynVisum setting file.
Can be reproduced even if the folder is moved as a whole.

  2. In current user's Document folder, or its sub folders:
Records relative path from current user's Document folder.

  3. In current user's Home folder, or its sub folders:
Records relative path from current user's Home folder.

  4. In other cases:
The location is recorded as relative from the user's home folder.

If a file is absent at recorded path on demand, only the file name is used to try to find it.
(possibly unintended file may be used)

In a figure below, [filter.svm] and [test.svm] are SynVisum document files.
Using material files in a folder [image] , or Quartz Composition file [Blur.qtz], it will be reproducible if the folder [test] is transferred in whole.

On the other hand, the still image file [Scan.tiff] will be recorded as relative from user's home folder [yuji].
It will not be reproduced, in most cases, if the folder [test] is transferred.
(but it will become reproducible if later the folder [Pictures] (including the file [Scan.tiff]) is placed in the folder [test] (but not sub folder) )
